Got a grip? I do!

Thanks to the wonderful country of the US of A, Mr. Bush for the war in Iraq
so the price of the dollar dropped, I just got my grip for the D300. Cool!
About half the price I would have spend here in Portugal or other EU
countries (although no one had it in stock anywhere) and it came with  AA
NiMh batteries (2900 mAh), a charger and a good cleaning kit. Bought by
Cameta camera, thru Amazon.
I had it shipped to my sister in Washington (she's a mystery novel author)
and she send it to me. This because they don't ship directly to Europe for
some unknown reason. No problem with the taxes and I got it in exactly one
week and a day, probably because of X-mas.

My first impression: what a piece of sh.t!

Kidding!

No it's really nice. Now it looks like a D3, almost ;-) It feels very nice
and the grip even gives the normal horizontal orientation more grip. All
controls feel like the same with a front and rear dial, shutter, AF-on
button and multi button. One extra button to disengage the grip's buttons.
The dials are modified the same way as you modify the other dials in the
menu.
You can put an extra EN-EL3e battery in it for extended life, the 8 AA
battery pack for faster performance ( 8 fps) or, with an optional
holder/cover, you can put a EN-EL4 or 4e in it with both extended life and 8
fps shooting.
Main thing I bought it for, is for portrait pictures; I feel like I'm having
a spasm or I'm just deformed when I try to hold the camera in portrait
orientation. Besides, it much harder to keep the camera straight.
It feels even better in portrait now, than normal.

Is it worth the money? I think yes. The percentage of the camera price is
very reasonable and the camera feels even more "strong".
And the advantages are big: twice the power for at least 1000 pictures, more
speed (I don't need that, but who knows?) and it works, even without any
battery inside. Matter of fact, the cover doesn't even need to be on it and
it will still work.
Strongly recommended.
Oh, the store, Cameta, was dead on with the delivery date. Second time
purchase from them, also highly recommended!

And of course it makes you a better photographer.  Everyone knows that
the more money you spend on photo gear, the better the images.

Just a pity your camera doesn't focus properly.  But it looks great!

I think you can't focus. You seem to be the only one who doesn't understand,
but keeps trolling away.
How's that P&S working for you?
Get a grip! LOL

I'm wondering when European's love for the welfare nanny state will
give way under the pressure of people buying from other countries less
socialist but easier on the wallet?

Not enough people are buying yet, but I'll do my best to support the USA ;-)

If asked to choose between between cheaper cameras or cheaper health
care this European would go for the health care.

Agreed.  There must be little worse than not being able to afford to be
ill.

RichA:
As a true Torontonian, you should already have the answer to that.
Or was the hypothesis purely rhetorical?

So, finally my AA batteries are loaded, so I shot some high speed. HOLY
MAKREL !

I bought an UZI ! 8 fps is very, very fast. It sounds like an old filmcamera
(or an UZI in stealth mode ;-)
