I guess so...

Cheers,
Alan

PS: My SO and I enjoyed a day at an auction conducted by the Amish and
Mennonites near Intercourse, PA.  Wonderful...

What lens did you take that with?  There's so much depth of field there, at
first glance it looks unreal.  You had to do something to compress the EV
range, though, no doubt?

Took a kayak trip down the Cass River (small, but pretty) a few months ago.
The only other boat I saw on the water that day was a couple Amish guys in a
little fishing boat, with a motor on the back...

So much DOF?  eh?  The lady in the middle is about 8 feet in front of
the auctioneers; the fellows standing at the back are about 40 feet in
front of the auctioneers. ... that was a 135mm @ f/1.7 (with sensor crop
it was effectively 200mm).  I was about 40 feet behind the auctioneers.

Adding to the "unreal" effect was that it was an open sided tent, so
everything outside was pretty much blown away as I exposed for the
subject... (see other phot as well).

Ahem, posting a little too early in the morning--I meant very limited depth
of field, of course.

Somehow, "depth of field" is gradually taking on the opposite meaning from
the real one.

Other discussion aside, though, I really like that shot, it's very nice.

Perhaps, but not for me.

Why thank you.  Just a grab to compliment others shot from the front side...

The correct term is "shallow" depth of field. In conjunction with a zoom
lens you can get that effect too.

... I think Matt knows what he means ... I certainly did...

and I don't think there are any 35mm zoom lenses that do 135mm @ f/1.7.

Cheers,
Alan
