Saw a couple of silver ones on Amazon today, for 299... form someplace
called "ace" photo.

Anyone had any experience with these folks? I'd like to have one of these,
but am somewhat skeptical since they're so hard to come by.

B&H has gray-market ones listed for $309.95 (back-ordered, of course).
They actually had them a month ago, and may have them again.

This lens is actually f/2.8, BTW. The silver ones are much more common
than the black ones.

Check, first, whether Ace Photo has them in stock, and, second,
whether they're gray-market (no U.S. warranty).

I'll have to check out BH again... I like to buy all my photo gear form
them...I looked at their website a couple of weeks ago but they didn't have
any available.
