I am looking at getting a macro lens for my Canon EOS350D and was
wondering if anyone could give any input or pros/cons towards certain
ones. I have looked at the Canon EF-S 60mm macro but the fact that it
is EF-S puts me off just incase I buy a full-frame camera in the
future. The Canon EF 100mm looks nice and so does the Sigma 70mm
macro. Can anybody comment on these? Or are there others I should
consider?
Thanks

Both lenses you mention are great. I own the Canon 100mm and had the
Sigma 70mm in for testing. I haven't put my resolution tests up yet but
from looking at the images from both I think you'd be happy with either.
Cheers,

Sigma my be great, but I understand it's a bigger gamble than either
the Canon or the Tamron 90mm, in that you may have to try several
examples to get the good one.
I have the Tamron 90, which produces excellent images at somewhat less
expense than the Canon 100mm, but is noisier (mechanical movement) and
slower to focus than the Canon. I saved a few dollars buying Tamron
used, and it is really good for my purposes. If I had do-overs, I'd
get the Canon 100, just for the quicker-silenter factor.

What sort of subjects you have in mind ? In general, longer the focal
length, longer the working distance (subject to lens front) heavier &
costlier the lens. For flowers and inanimate objects a short focal length
is fine. But for skittish insects & spiders a longer focal length is often
useful.
All true macro lenses (1:1 magnification) give excellent image quality.
You have to make your choice on other factors, such as focal length,
weight (for hand holding), cost, etc. Keep in mind you will need a good
flash for most macro work.

I use a Sigma 105 macro with that camera and it works well; but, it does
occasionally result in Err99.

I've got a Tokina 100mm F2.8 for my 350D - Build is solid and IQ meets my
needs (web publishing or A4 prints).
Don't know how it goes on a full frame camera.
