Suggestions on a 300mm telephoto for Drebel 300

Anyone have any suggestions on a 300mm telephoto for the Canon Drebel
300? I currently have a Quataray 100-300 f4.5...I know, I know...you
get what you pay for but money is an issue. I would like to get
something faster because I shoot a lot of fastpitch softball and soccer
at the high school level. I have gotten pretty good at timing shots to
catch appropriate action but still get a lot of bat and ball blur...this
only goes so far in the "neat" category...Thanks

Budget? I don't know how much/less depth of field you want, f/4.5 is
already pretty shallow for sports. Blurred bat and ball can be good if done
right.
