My 'New Lens for Christmas'

Hi all

I have a been given a Sigma 18-125 lens for Christmas. So far not been able
to get out and about with it -  but I have used it to take a few indoor
shots. ( please see http://djmp.co.uk/slr%201/xmas.htm   )
I'm more than pleased with the results so far.

I am also experimenting with some low light level shots  ( please see
http://djmp.co.uk/slr%201/night.htm  )

Kind regards
and very happy shooting for 2007

Good to see you are enjoying your new lens Dave.  I'll agree that the
weather has been terrible here in the UK for most of the last 2 weeks with
thick fog & rain!  If you are into indoor shots have you tried any using
avaliable light only?  You might want to try a canon 50mm/f1.8 (£60), or if
you are shooting in very low light levels the 50mm/f1.4 (£200).   My Nikkor
50/1.4 which I recently got for £160 got me quite a few usable shots at my
works xmas party recently and the light levels were not much more than that
of candlelight:

I had to shoot at iso1600 so they were a bit grainy but it gave me
1/30-1/60s for most shots.

I just bought a K10D with grip so my new Sigma 70mm macro will have to wait
til I buy my new 4x4 next month after I come back from holidays!!!

I bought the Canonr 55-200 4.5f zoom. I'm happy with it, the only thing
I DON'T like changing macro rings on the camera when I want to do close
ups.  If I understand it corectly, both the Sigma and Tamron lenses do
IR and macros.  That would be so nice.  I saw a review or posting for
the Canon 60-350mm IR macro lens today but it is by no means cheap.
It's 1200 bucks.  Boy, I'd like to get my hands on that sucker!

Where did you buy the Sigma lens and what did you pay for it.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Harry

Nice photography, DAVE.  I really like your low light scenic shots.
