Interesting shot. Assuming it is un-shopped (surely Canon aren't that
naughty!), I find it a bit hard to reconcile it with reality. The
building appears to be quite well lit by a very distant light source,
so presumably the Moon. Yet the sky seems less washed out (ie *lots*
of stars) than I would expect (even for a low Moon?) And that low moon
(it looks like it is only about 10-15 degrees up), would normally cast
a more yellowish light. That may just be a light balance issue, but it
just adds up to a `something isn't right` feeling about this image.

I'm just being picky. (O; I actually have a similar-ish shot taken on
my lowly Olympus C8080 - which is actually not-that-bad on this type of
shot. I should dig it out and compare, and if brave enough, post a
link....

Looks consistent with a 30-sec exposure at a remote location. *Really*
remote, given the hint of the milky way you can see. The full moon would
cause the sky close to the horizon to be washed out, and in fact, given
that the whole sky is blue (rather than black) is a clue that it's lit
by a very reflective moon. If the exposure was any longer, the star
trails would be longer, too, but they're about the right size for 30
seconds.

Shot with an Olympus c-5050z. Lots of exposures layered in GIMP. It's
kind of embarassing, because I took these before I realized I could get
16 seconds per exposure in manual mode.

Do you have any specs on the shot? When the photo started to download I
thought "Wow, this guy has a lot of dust on his sensor." <BG>

it's all in the EXIF data...

ISO: 800
Shutter: 30secs
Aperture: f4
contrast, sharpness and saturation are all "High, +1"

interesting, though... the camera calls itself the "Canon EOS Kiss
Digital N"

That's the Japanese name for the 350D/Rebel XT.

I believe it's taken in the South Island in New Zealand at Lake Tekapo,
showing the church there, you don't get much light pollution there.. :o)

The view from inside the church through that main window is incredible,
looking down the turquoise lake,
