The gear heads have run their course here because the latest DSLRs are now
so close that the spec. wars are becoming dreadfully boring.

I'll propose "rec.photo.digital.slr-systems.techniques"

Humbly submitted and earnestly wishing you all happy holidays!

I think rec. annul retentives photographic minutiae   might work better
:)

Would thou choose to meet a rat eating dragon, or
a dragon, eating rat? The answer of: I am somewhere
in the middle. "Me who is part taoist and part Christian".

I like it!  OK...  RFC time

rec.photo.digital.slr-systems.analretentives.photographic.minutia

That should cover it.

(rec.analretentives will cover too wide of a spectrum.  That could potentially
be worse than <news:alt.flame>)

So you can't use "techniques" if you don't have an SLR System?

If you don't have an SLR it's just 'Points, Shoots and Leaves '  ;O)

There are already a bunch of 'techniques' newsgroups for everything
from nature to portrait photopgrahy, but sadly, nobody seems to be
posting to them.

The origin of this group goes back to a time when there was a lot to talk
about in terms of differential camera technology.  Now, there is a lot less
to talk about because the current DSLRs are all darned good.  We are
currently being swamped with minutiae.

It would be wonderful if we could add more about technique.  The technology
continues to be exciting and reports about it should not go away, but I'd
like to see more about using what we already have and what we can afford to
have.

That, and the sad fact that there is virtually no new film gear in the
pipeline.  There won't be an "F-7."   And we've pretty-much talked-out all
the other subjects that are related to film cameras.

Even digital has been talked-out.  The only recurring argument is that old
"Film vs. Digital" one, and that dead horse can't be beaten much more.

<nods>

On  the bright side, there seem to be plenty of us who're interested
in discussing technique. I certainly do whenever an opportunity
arises.
