Terrible (well, bad) JPEG images.  The internal processor is not doing
it's job.  But, shoot Raw and process outside the camera and it all
changes, the images are excellent.

"That said it's unlikely you'll see this difference in any print up to
A3 size, it's a 100% view thing so you have to decide if that's
important to you or not."

Terrible (well, bad) JPEG images? Not even close although there's room
for improvement.

The problem with that is that only about 2% of digital images ever see
paper. Most people don't print, they put them on the web, do DVD slideshows,
etc. And you do the the problems on the screen. People should ask Pentax to
fix the problem with the JPGs. It should be easy enough to do with a
firmware update.

You don't see any problems with the JPEG images by the time they've
been resized for the web - the only time the images look a little
soft is if you pixel-peep them at 100% crops.  It's only an issue
for sad obsessives (who are easy meat for trolls like RichA and
his sock puppets).

Pentax have already said they won't "fix" this, because it isn't
broken.   I applaud them for this - it's a whole lot easier to add
a little sharpening (which should, in any case, only be done after
resizing to the final dimensions) than it is to remove the damage
done by over-sharpening in the camera.

Well, keep Pentax's stand of fixing poor demosaicing the next time you buy a
car that has a fault with it. Make sure and applaud them for not fixing
problems. We should never ever hold a company responsible for putting out
faulty products. Anytime something happens and it happens to every one of
the products they put out we should all stand around like f.cking idiots and
applaud.
