K10D versus?  Anything to prove value of 22bit encoding?

Any output yet, comparisions to other cameras that would show a
difference?
And please....no F----- high-end audio analogies.

Plenty of K10D shots on DP Review and other places, have a look yourself.

There's something amusing about trying to pick out the most-subtle
differences between shots on an image that's been reduced from 12 bit (or 22
in this case?) down to 8, then further compressed via jpg, then
reconstituted on a computer whose video card & monitor aren't likely up to
the task of faithfully rendering what was originally there.

That's the cynical side of me. The practical says yes, you can construct
shots that will reproduce the best & worst a camera has to offer such that
it (the differences) still come across, even after all the digital trashing
goes on.

Geez, next thing you know I'm going to be pushing for analog!  "Smoother
textures, less-harsh boundaries..."     :>)

On Dpreview?  I don't think so, they haven't reviewed it yet.

Dpreview has more than reviews.  There are hundreds of shots by now
posted in the Pentax DSLR forum.

Exactly right. Sometimes you trolls have to look past the sensational
headlines Rich.

You want subtle from a K10D, try these. D80 you will have to find yourself.

No offence, but how does that answer the question?

As someone else mentioned, it's quite difficult to compare small
compressed images as they will all look fairly good. At the very least
we need full size JPG images at the lowest compression ratio. RAW
images would be best for comparisons to see if the bit depth makes a
difference, or if it's just more marketing hype.

I'm sure a review site will tackle that one shortly.

Yes of course but it is all I have as I do not have a D80, the review on
Luminous Landscape probably says enough anyway. In the mean time this is all
we can offer on this site, please check back later when our reviews and
comparisons are completed.

What output are you concerned with? Are you going to be blowing up K10D
photos to wall-sized?

What sort of test do you think could show off the difference between the
K10D and other A/D converter systems?

Nice and sharp as well as good color.

Tell me Pete, did you sharpen any, or was this pretty much what was shot?

And did you use the Pentax software, or did you use something else like
Photoshop or Elements?

Thanks!
