Henry,

Come on guys, what's the deal here?  I love ya and I'm a regular *LOYAL*
customer, have been for many years.  Why do you feel the need to SPAM me?  I
know what I want and I'll call you when it's time for me to place an order.
Please cease the SPAM immediately!!  And, yes, I know about the "opt-out"
option.  I never "opt-in" so please be considerate to your customers and not
send SPAM.  Think about it, you really don't need to do this.  Thank you.

Hey! How many newsgroups are you going to send this to?

B&H sends e-mail to a customer immediately after a web order's been
placed to confirm the order. Another is sent with the package tracking
info when the order's been shipped. Otherwise, the only e-mail you
should receive from B&H is if you specifically opted _in_ to our
newsletter mail list. B&H has never spammed anyone and never will.

Thank you for the explanation, Henry.  I never did "opt in" to any of these
e-mails.  I'm very familiar with your e-mail system as I have been very
satisfied with the professionalism and courtesy your company shows towards
the customers.  It seems to be fine now since I "opted out" of your system,
though I still got several more a week or two later.  I thought this whole
issue unusual for B&H and wanted to bring it to your and everyone else's
attention in case there were some underlying technical glitch.  Thanks again
for your great service.

Thanks. Next time maybe you could bring this to my attention first and
then to the newsgroups if and when you don't get a satisfactory reply
from me? Just a thought, particularly since we don't spam and since
spam is such an online demon.

Henry,

Pay no attention to Rita Ä Berkowitz, she seems to be nothing more than a
pushy, constant whiner on this forum.  I have had many trouble-free
transactions with B&H.  Your store and its services are excellent.

Look, a.shole, if you don't like reading my posts you are more than welcome
to killfile me.

As for Henry and B&H, I have had many trouble free transactions as well,
that's not the issue.  As I have stated earlier in this thread I posted this
message in a public forum since Henry reads this group and to give him a
heads-up to see if anyone else was getting spammed.  I have *NO* complaints
about B&H.  I have the greatest respect for this establishment.

Hrmm.  I'm opted out and can't recall the last time I got a mail from
them not order related.

You shouldn't *have* to opt out, if you never opted in.  So,
e-mail unrelated to a specific order is indeed spam.

If *I* get e-mail which claims that I have to opt out to stop
receiving it, I simply block the IP address and/or domain name, and that
is the end of the problem.  Let *them* figure out another way of
communicating with me since they abused the e-mail path.  (Granted,
since I have never dealt with B&H (so far) I don't expect to have to do
this -- but I now *will* warn them if I do deal with them and they need
my e-mail address to complete the deal.

    Enjoy,
        DoN.

Just another data point or two:

I have done lotsa online deals w/ B&H P-V;
never had to opt out;
received ONE unsolicited, rather inane,
"holiday deals" email a few weeks ago.

That reminds me: I need to order another QR camera plate or two ...

Glorioski!

Rita -- please take TWO of the blue pills.  You're starting to foam
at the mouth.

I never opt out either, because for many borderline businesses it leads
to *more* spam.  No more from the place you opted out from, but your
now the "confirmed active" email address is sold to many others.

I have *never* returned to do more business with a place that spammed
me after the sale.  Never.

That is true.  It is not good practice to opt out unless one is SURE about
the ethics of the given organization.

and yet you chose to use a valid e-mail address?  Ever hear of a bot
harvesting e-mails in these newsgroups?

Heh, heh ... it's valid, but I never use it or read it.  My secret weapon
... oh sh.t, now everyone knows!

B&H sends orders via email, and catalogs to my USPS mail box and the
occasional advertising email. Hardly a "SPAM" issue.   I don't consider
the occasional email form a company I do business with to be SPAM.  I
have far bigger issues with the unsolicited adds for various drugs,
rich quik hoaxes etc.  However, I find  Comcasts bright mail,  yahoo
anti-spam and my Apple Email client reduce these to a 3 or 4 a week.
