You make your purchase through Amazon site, and your camera will arrive from that merchant. I bought one of my Canon lens this way, no problem.

There are things you buy from amazon.com, and some you buy from amazon marketplace. If you have a URL to share, that'd help, otherwise, you have to read the fine print. In the marketplace, you're buying from the seller directly, and amazon is just the gathering point to help the seller market, not terribly unlike making an ebay buy it now transaction.

There are other "buying choices", which are Cameta Camera and 17th Street Photo, both of which should also be okay, but both of which are also more expensive. But buying directly from Amazon is essentially worry-free.

Amazon discloses on its web page whether the product is sold directly by them or by an affiliate.
Your credit card is always billed by Amazon, and tour financial info is not turned over to the affiliate, so you needn't worry about unauthorized extra charges.
I've bought a number of things from Amazon, including a film scanner, and there has never been any kind of hitch.

Actually, it's *very* different from an ebay purchase. Amazon backs up the sale, and you're guaranteed shipping times. But as always, it's important to read the fine print.
Note that Samsung seems to have also released a 10-mp DSLR with basically the same specs as the K10D... Imagine that. :-)
Pat - 22 Nov 2006 05:44 GMT I have stopped using Amazon because of shipping problems. They use DHL which hands the package off to USPS for delivery. I am rural and inconvenient to deliver to. I have a mailbox that is distant from my home and along side a busy highway. I have a PO Box for mail delivery because my mailbox is not secure and unsuitable for use. Amazon insists on a street address. DHL hands off to USPS. My expensive lens gets dumped on the ground beside my mailbox because it won't fit in the mailbox. I am sitting at home without a clue. I haven't used Amazon since.

Don't think I've ever had an Amazon order shipped DHL. Some sellers using Amazon ship DHL, but I've never had Amazon itself ship that way.
When shopping on the Amazon site, pay attention to who you are actually buying something from -- there are thousands of vendors other than Amazon who sell through Amazon storefronts, and some of them have very different terms than Amazon itself.

I've never had Amazon ship using anybody but UPS and they always have a tracking number. But Amazon has practically no photo equipment--your "expensive lens" almost certainly came from Adorama or one of the other resellers that has a presence on Amazon.

I have *never* had a shipment from Amazon that came > via DHL. Possibly from one of their affiliate stores. I've had deliveries by UPS from Amazon.com, UPS, USPS, & FedEx from affiliates. I strongly prefer UPS; their tracking system always works, they are almost always deliver early. USPS & FedEx don't have good tracking, though I don't think they have ever been late on a shipment. I also think UPS tends to take better care of packages en route and make better delivery to the door (friendlier & not leaving packages in stupid places).
I've bought a lot of stuff through Amazon & affiliates, and I have never ran into any problems. Over the last year some of the stuff I bought through them has come from Amazon.com, Adorama, Digital Dist., OneCall, Bowling.com, Bowlers Paradise. No bad experiences at all. The only thing I would improve upon would be shipment tracking or allowing for setting a preferred shipper for all affiliates so that I can always use UPS, but that would probably not be practical for them.

Dave - 27 Nov 2006 06:56 GMT I think it is a good company but I have had occasional books with major printing errors. It's not easy to return merchandise when a return involves more than just driving back to the store and handing it back. I get a feeling that their quality control could be a little better.

It's not the publisher, it doesn't print the books, it just stores them then ships them!
And suggesting that a vendor should flip through every single page of every book that goes through its hands (as it would have to do) is suggesting that you like a book to cost several hundred dollars a copy!

You make a good point, Derek, Amazon is not in the printing business.
Of course I don't expect them to leaf through every book. But with a brick and mortar store it is easier to do a return, plain and simple. Regardless of who's fault it is, it ends up being the consumer's problem if mail order doesn't go easily. I suspect that all but the most gross printing errors are just swallowed by the mail order consumer. Too much effort to do a return.

I have had things shipped direct from an Amazon warehouse via DHL. Not a problem for me, but I can understand why this may not be OK for others.
Only problem I ever had from Amazon was from an affiliate. And Amazon made sure that they made it right.

Consumer electronics is a VERY competitive and volatile marketplace with prices and supply changing constantly.
In many years, I have never had a problem with Amazon. However, I believe my most recent purchase was my first with a marketplace seller via the official Amazon web site. That experience was fine, too.
With the link you provided, you notice that your intended camera is NOT sold directly by Amazon.com, rather it "Ships from and sold by 17th Street Photo". As always, good luck, but you should OK.

Availability: In Stock. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.
And 17th street photo is listed under "More buying choices." Perhaps when you looked, Amazon was out of stock.
