Hi All,
Thinking of getting the above lens, seems to have good reviews. I know
it's expensive - bottom line is it worth it? will be used on my D 200.
Haven't got a decent dealer in my area so I can't try before I buy.
Regards to all
Pete.

What other lens(es) do you have? What are you planning to use it for?
There is (some) distortion if doing architecture. It seems like the
17-35/2.8 is better (though less zoom) but nearly the same price, used
if budget is really tight. That's supposed to be a really spectacular
performer. If you want it as a replacement walkaround lens, the wider
zoom range is more handy for that but it's not much smaller or lighter.

The 17-55mm is an average lens. Get the 17-35 and 28-70 f/2.8 and you will
be happy.

I got this lens 3 weeks ago and like it a lot, and at GBP 794 it's not
cheap! It was an upgrade for my 18-70 which I got as a kit lens with my
D70s and it's nice to have the extra 1-2 stops and I also like the fact that
the max f stop does not change with focal length. It's a solid mass of
metal & glass and the only plastic you will find on it will be the hood &
caps! If you ever decide you don't like it then these beasts seems to
resell on ebay for practically what you pay new.
