There's absolutely no sense in buying a 5D unless you are going to mate it
with the proper lens.

Same thing posted in rec.photo.

Either x-post or limit to one photo group, please. I know your pal Mark
squared will object.

<guffaw!>

Well, that's a better arrangement than the Nikon lens you duct-taped to that
Kodak, anyway.

Still a waste of great glass. ("Canon"? Don't they make printers, or
faucets, or something?)

Pentax seems to specialize in optics and imaging. Mind you most of their
cameras are endoscopes and endoscopes (ow ow OW!)

The Kodak feels better in the hand.

True, but the only interest is the FF sensor not the sh.t that surrounds it.

In fact, I'm a word nerd. I get a kick out of tossing a few odd  ones

Isn't it nice of Canon to be compatible with Nikon's lenses?

It definitely was a great strategy since Canon wasn't able to produce
acceptable glass.  They did screw me by not making all my FD lenses mount.
I had to sell them in disgust.

You didn't "have" to sell them in disgust, you chose to sell them in
disgust.
Canon does, or did, produce a lens actually in the same league, if not a tad
superior to the lens you are using, the 200mm f1.8L USM.  (Photoszone grades
the Canon at 4.6, the Nikkor at 4.1...

All such lens tests are suspect. Anyway, Canon doesn't make an eBay-approved
camera.

First you say the MP-E is very good, next you say Canon isn't
able to produce acceptable glass.  Hmmm.

If they don't tell what I want, sure, they must be suspect.
Can't have any odd test tell me I was wrong.  But if they
show what I want them to say ... well, then the test is
obviously valid!  Right, Neil?

I wonder if all the great photographers used an 'eBay-approved'
camera.  Probably not.  Anyway, Nikon doesn't make a 'me-approved'
lens, and nobody gives a rat's behind, either, so there!

I am not the first one to point out that camera lenses are made to take
photographs, not run lens tests. I'm not saying that such tests have no
value, only that they are not the be-all and end-all of evaluating lens
performance.

All the great eBay photographers do. But don't take my word for it; ask

True.

True.  However, they are not completely without meaning.

<chuckle>

Yes, Rita is one of them. The "eBay-approved camera" is sort of an inside
joke with Rita, who uses a Nikon D2x and insists it is "the only
eBay-approved camera."

There are a lot of inside jokes with Rita, starting with the fact that
"she's" a he.

One of the more both prolific and amusing posters here, he can be
alternately insightful and trolling by making truth-impaired statements
with outward authority. Hard to get him to foam, but it's happened.

Don't do it, Neil.  Let's keep John's fantasy and fixation alive. Once you
burst his bubble he'll have to go back to weaving baskets since there are no
other goals in his life.

I don't recall, nor do I really care to check sources, etc. Rita=Rick in
my book, but it's not something I am going to pursue.

I was curious enough to ask "Rita" straight up a few months ago, but got
the expected obfuscation.

He/she remains my favorite follower/fanboi.

Sure!  Go talk to the super sleuths over there in the eBay group you call
"reliable sources" for your answer.  They pegged me as "Fred" for the
record.  I like Fred.  Will you call me Fred?

You think you have it all figured out, why ask?

Yeah, right.  Funny you haven't killfiled me if this were the case.  Like
dog crap, you stuck to the bottom of my shoe longer than I wanted or needed.

amuse me.

What I clearly don't have figured out is *why* you hide behind the
skirts of a woman.

Rick or Google or some other source will have to suffice. I'm done
talking about him, or her, if a sex change should take place.

For the record, I don't begrudge anyone his or her sexuality,
orientation, etc. I just don't care for four flushers. Or at least that
aspect of otherwise intelligent folk.

I still don't know who Rick is. Are you saying that Rita is really named
Rick? Google doesn't get me anything except stuff on Rita Berkowitz the
"psychic medium and spirit artist." I doubt that's the same Rita Berkowitz
since it doesn't say anything about her using a Nikon D2x.

I'm really not sure why John has this fixation on me?  I know every time he
gets to mention this nonsense he perks up like a child on Christmas morning.
I know he said it really doesn't matter to him, but this obsession is
getting to the point were I think he might be a stalker.  This really isn't
beneficial for his emotional wellbeing.  My guess is John's fantasy goes
beyond what a couple of the super sleuths "claims" in the eBay group.  Let
it go, John!  You got a killfile, use it if you really don't care.
