I just got my 5D a week ago and like it so far BUT sometimes the
shutter won't click. One minute I'll be taking photos fine, then the
shutter won't click and it won't take a photo. The exposure is in
range and it is indicating it's in focus.
Am I missing something or is there something wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Hack

Set to manual exposure and shut off auto-focus. Does it click every time? If
so, you need to dig into the manual and understand your camera better.

Are you sure the green focus light in the viewfinder was not blinking
(meaning it can't find something to focus on) ?
I just got my 5D last night and was trying to make it fail in very low light
and I found the focus for me was hunting on outside AF points as only the
center AF point is cross-type (more accurate).

Switch to manual focus. If the focus indicator in the viewfinder is
blinking, it means that it is unable to autofocus, and it won't take
the picture. Manual focus will override that.

If you're shooting continuously, it's probably just a full memory buffer.

I tried it in manual focus - didn't help. Anyhow, autofocus light was
steady - means in focus.
Exposure was correct.
It is in single shot mode - should not be overfilling the buffer.
I tried it with another lens - same result.
Then, all at once it started working again. Then, after a few more
shots it quit again. That makes three times in the last two days.
This parrot is dead!
It's going back for a replacement. What a bummer!

Is it possible that you have a slow CF card that could be slowing your
buffer transfer?

I wondered about that, but the card (Sandisk ultra II 4 Gb) claims a
write rate of 9 Mb/sec. So, even in raw/jpeg fine, it shoud transfer
an image in a couple of seconds. I took, say 8 photos, and the camera
was down for 10-30 minutes. The last time it quit, it was after 3-4
photos.
