No, but you can splice in a 2.5 mm mini stereo jack and plug and then
use a stereo earphone extension to add length to the cord.

Sue,

No, I haven't seen an extender.  The connectors are very specialized,
and it'd surely cost close to $100 if you could find one.  Since it's a
simple device, you could probably have a local geek extend the cable (by
splicing more cable in the middle or at the handheld end).

But have you tried the infrared remote?  It's cheap (~$17), and it works
very well.  It just doesn't activate the auto-focus (it fires the shot
as focused, so you need to pre-focus with the normal shutter-release
button).  I've used it bounced off the backdrop behind me a group photo,
so I know it'll work reliably up to 3-4 meters even when reflected off a
dull surface.
