It's *slightly* louder than others, yes. But any DSLR is going to be
*much* louder than a non-DSLR. Most of what you are hearing is the
sound of the mirror flipping up and back, not the sound of the shutter
itself. Realistically, any DSLR is going to make enough noise that you
will want to be careful about when you snap if you're in the middle of
the audience (as opposed to, say, in a specially designated "press"
area).

Zooms won't be your problem. Low light performance will be. The built
in zooms on many P&S cameras are nice, and have relatively large maximum
apertures with image stabilization, but in order to get the sort of
shutter speeds you need to avoid blur, you'll still often want a higher
ISO than these cameras can deliver with acceptable results.
