Sigh. It's Rich - never forget that.

It's probably funcionally identical but it has more than a
few cosmetic changes, with a different case entirely from
the K10D along with slightly different ergonomics. I don't
know if the internals are identical (I suspect they are) and
I don't know a better word to use than "rebadged", but the
differences are much greater than that word implies.

Hi John,
The photos I saw they looked the same except for the SAMSUNG above the lens.
Just had another look and they look cheaper IMO, especially the buttons on
the back, thats a bit sad really.

I can see someone buying Leica Panasonic clone, even at a higher price,
just for the name.
But what is going to make someone buy a Samsung?

I have some Samsung kit here, LCD TV, LCD monitor, other stuff. Seems
good value for money to me. A few years ago, I would not have thought of
Panasonic as a "name" in cameras - yet now they have a wide range of
models with excellent quality and technical innovation (even if not
everyone likes the pixels at 1:1 zoom!).
If the Samsung brand has good lens continuity, lots of people will go for
it.

I doubt you'll see much difference between it and the Pentax. Samsung
wouldn't be served well if either one seemed to be a "lesser" camera in
comparison. One thing is for sure, Pentax's $300+ kit lens is the kit
lens to own, far better than the so-called "Schneider" lens the Samsung
will be kitted with.

And of course you have done extensive testing on these lenses before bagging
them out?

No, but I've seen enough test results. Latest one;
Hated the Canon 18-55mm
Hated the Olympus 14-45mm
Liked the Nikon 18-70mm
Liked the Sigma 18-50mm
Loved the Pentax.

What would be the point unless you had cameras to fit them all.
