Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro (Canon AF Fit)

Hi Everyone

Looking to get a Canon 400D. Thinking of getting the above lens instead
of the kit lens.

Is it a good choice? Is it worth the price?

Should I get a 18-50mm Sigma instead?

Any advice much appreciated.
