I've recently sent my D70 back to Nikon for some fine tuning - it was
writing to the cards in a way, I couldn't recover the images.
WELL, how did they return it, once I had paid $212. for their repair?
The camera body was put into the EMPTY D70 box, and then that box was well
packaged in styrofoam and another box. All of that packaging, did not
prevent the camera body from all of the agitation received in shipping.
Remember, the body was in a box and it was loose.
As a result, of course, the camera is not functioning at all.
What were they thinking?????

Was it insured? If they did not insure it, I would think they would be
liable.

You should do what I do when I need Nikon parts repaired. Just drive 15
minutes over to their service center in Melville, NY.
Actually, that might not work if you don't live on Long Island. Never mind.
