My partner is buying his first DSLR and is after recommendations on what to
spend his budget of £500-£700, a new EOS 400 or a second hand higher spec
camera any suggestions. I have a Canon EOS 350D and he was looking for
something different.

Thanks in anticipation

if he's looking for something different, i doubt that he will be happy with
400d, since it's not that of an improvement. How about, say, used 20D?
