One of my friend is leaving for a trip in Thailand. He was thinking of
buying a entry-level DSLR setup from Thailand... does anyone know where
to buy it from in Thailand or how expensive or wise would it be to buy
from there? Please share your experience.
Thanks in advance.

He might want to check to see if he has to pay an tariffs or taxes when he
comes back into the USA. I know nothing of that subject, but obviously, it's
something he should factor in to the costs.

And if he needs warranty service for the camera, can he get it in the USA?

I think electronics might be exempted from import duty if brought for
individual purpose - I am not sure 100% either.

I read that if any Nikon gear is bought they will provide two
documents/forms - one from Niks Thailand and another for worldwide
warranty by Nikon Corporation.

nobody will ask if you don't declere it to customs. People travel with
cameras all the time.
If bought in Asia, it will carry international warranty.
