Could this be a good landscape camera?

I joking suggested some months ago that a fixed lens camera with a 5
meg CMOS/CCD derived from an APS sized sensor might make a superior
compact camera.  I never thought someone would make a fixed-lens
camera like this.

Well, like it says ... it's a press release.  Worth looking into, in my
opinion ... but I'd also be skeptical.

Oh, I forgot to ask ... have you ever purchased a digital camera?

You know I did, it was your old one.

I would buy one IF the sensor was noise free at higher ISO settings,
unfortunately the Foveon on previous Sigma cameras was not.

This is an entirely new sensor.  Let's wait and see what it can do.

Do you often use high ISO on landscapes?

No, MY main use would be to replace a P&S and as such I would like to have a
camera on which I can bump up the ISO to take pictures inside without a
flash without having noise kick in.

Interesting that this one has no optical finder, similar to many
digital P&S. I have been led to believe that the large DSLR sensors
cannot be used for previewing, and this is why DSLRs have to use the
penta-mirror for framing. Is this no longer true? If so, then why not
getting rid of the SLR mirror mechanism and make them cheaper, faster
and quieter, but still have interchangeable lenses ?
Sorry if this topic has been well discussed before.

Probably.

You mean slower, the shutter lag on P&S is far worse than DSLR.
Remember, you have to expose the sensor to provide a "live" delayed
image, you then have to cap the sensor, flush it, and uncap it before
you can make the exposure.

>and quieter,

Undoubtedly.

>but still have interchangeable lenses ?

I would like an APS-C range finder with an almost silent leaf shutter
and a wide lens; this Sigma could almost meet the requirements depending
on mechanical noise. Oh and it would have to be free from the well
established Sigma/Foveon artefacts.
