I have just started to look at the Pentax line because someone requested
info about a DSLR and she had a Pentax film camera with a couple of lenses.
The one lens I would like Canon to copy is the DA 40mm, put that on a Drebel
and it would make a killer P&S replacement.

Oh the K10D looks good too ;-)

Make no mistake, it is what the 400D and the D80 should have been.

The 400d with pro level features was never going to be.
The D80 would have gazumped the D200 if it had weather sealing.
Nikon have little room to move at the top.
But I bet Canon throw something new in the ring very soon to eclipse the
rest. _Never_ underestimate a dominant market leader.

Both the 350/400D and the D70/s left several important features out that
even the lesser Pentaxes included, IMHO the new K10D leaves the 400D and D80
in its wake, the A100 is a nice try but not nearly good enough.

Now that would be a fine idea.

Not with a bunch of Canon lenses, flashes and accessories not to mention CF
cards. Hey, I'm happy with what I have but it doesn't stop me from looking
at features I find attractive in other systems.

Ummm, we were talking about the OP having several Pentax lenses and I think
we all got a bit crossed up. Ultimately if you can get a good price for your
Canon gear the new Pentax will serve you well and you could then buy a DA
40mm and have SR on all your lenses.

My initial inquiry was for someone with ** 2 ** lenses (one Pentax and one
Sigma) and a film body. The replies and my further searching promped me to
reccomend she gets a Pentax DSLR body to go with her 2 lenses, if she can
afford it, the new K10D is the one I strongly reccomend, if not then the
K100D or K110D are second in my book anything older I would not reccomend
unless the price was really low.
Now ** I ** have Canon gear and I will not change but I do find some of the
features of Pentax cameras desirable.
