Personally, I dont get why anyone would go for it, but...
...this outfit has the Evolt-500 for $1200.

is the 18-80mm lens they are offering as a kit better than the standard
kit lenses:
14-45mm f3.5-5.6 & 40-150mm f3.5 for $700
why pay more and get less?

No it isn't better, the main attraction is it's 1 lens instead of 2...
some people like to have everything in 1 lens, if possible. The typical
price of E500+18-180 kit is $999 by the way. For $1200, you could easily
buy the 2-lens kit, AND the 18-180 for when you want to travel really
light. (the lens separately is about $450 or so)

>From accounts, the 40-150 is better optically than the 18-180.  Also,
without the 14-45, you lose the "28mm equivalent" wide angle which is
important for some people.

B&H has the same camera and lens for $929.95 and it appears to be in
stock.
Here is the link.

A reputable store in Toronto was selling it and the two lenses for the
equivalent of
$750.00 U.S. last week.  It may still be this cheap now.  Future Shop.
