Irfanview 3.98 is not working right to view Canon 1D Mark II N raw
(CR2) files. I need to sort/chimp thru a few thousand shots from an
event on Sunday. I've been using Adobe Lightroom, but it's DOG SLOW
and the UI is horrible (no indication if it has "read" a click or not,
so it keeps selecting a different image because I click then move the
mouse, then it selects the image the mouse was moved over AFTER the
click).
I'm running XP on an older laptop with limited memory, which is
probably part of why Lightroom sucks. I need a lighter-weight program
that doesn't try to do so much at once, but that can read Canon 1 D
Mark II N files.
Any suggestions? I'm hoping to move on to a Mac in a month or so, so
buying expensive Windoze software for this project isn't in the cards.
Thanks!

ACDSee v4 works fast for me.

Hmmm. It's taking a long time to build thumbnails for me. Also, is
there a way to get a full screen of thumbnails? And is there a way to
get the full thumbnail? It's cropping off the top and bottom from the
images that are in portrait orientation, which makes it impossible for
me to chimp those images in thumbnail view.
Thanks!

That old version works fine for me, I can't vouch for newer versions
(they tend to get bloated & slow down). You just drag the divider
between the preview/info & thumb panes to get more thumbs showing. My
only problems with this program are the database eventually gets too
full and corrupt (find it & delete to fix) so don't count on saving sort
order or anything like that and it's slow to move and delete thumbs.

I am running Lightroom on my 3.5 year old P4-3.06GHz Dell with 1024MB
1066RDRAM. It performs just fine. My real complaint with Lightroom is that
it is not clear if any of the work is being done in "raw space" or "RBG" space
when making exposure modification and also I do not see any sign of
incorporating curves. Masking in curves would also be nice so that they can
be applied to partial images.

Are you using it on Canon 1D Mark II "N" raw files?
Thanks!
