Are D200 and D70 batteries interchangable?

I have searched on the net and can't find the answer to this question.  The
D70 has the EN-EL3 battery and the D200 the EN-EL3e.  The D70 one has two
contacts the the D200 one has three, but they use the same charger.  They
are also the same voltage.  Please let me know if they are interchangable if
you know, and I would also like to know what the third contact is for on the
D200 battery?

Thanks for your help.

You didn't look very hard...most review and sales sites mention the new
battery in the D200 and how it works.

Are they interchangeable? Yes and no.

The old EN-EL3 series batteries are not usable in the D200. The D200
requires you use the "e" version because the extra contact is used for
the new battery metering system.

The new "e" will work in any of the older digital cameras that take the
EN-EL3 series - the extra contact is simply ignored.

Bill,

I appreciate the assistance, but you can keep your criticism to yourself.
Yes I did look "hard", for about 30 minutes, time I probably should have
spent doing something else for my wife or kids.

The beauty of what we have here is being able to seek help, input and
advise, and give it as well, without killing ourselves to find out on our
own.  In consideration of the group, I did attempt to find an answer before
I posted.

Without constructive criticism, the learning process can be very slow.
You know the old saying:

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and
you feed him for a lifetime."

Really? Why would you want to waste time with family? I'd rather be out
using my camera, or maybe fishing.

:-)

Ok, so where or how did you search?

I just did a quick Google for "d200 en-el3e d70" and got lots of hits
that had the information you needed - took me about a minute to filter
through several instances on the first page of hits.

Also, if you're asking about the D200 battery, there's a good chance you
own the D200 or are interested in it, so simply reading the manual warns
you that the older batteries are not compatible.

Using the online PDF manual is even easier and faster because you can
search the document to drastically reduce the amount of reading needed
to find the subject.

You didn't search for sh.t.  The information is readily available all over the
'net.  You simply found it easier to ask, rather than try.
