I'm not sure whether this question is best asked here or in a Windows
group, but you folks are the ones who probably use large cards, so
someone here may be knowledgeable...
I recently got a 2GB SD card to use in my Pentax *ist DS. I upgraded the
camera firmware to version 2 and the SD card works perfectly in the
camera.
I have to admit that I've never tried connecting my camera directly to
my PC using the supplied lead as I've got a card reader installed in my
PC. I've also got a second card reader in my Jobo Giga One.
My problem is that neither card reader will recognise my 2GB SD card
when the card reader is connected to my PC.
I can get the images onto my PC by putting the 2GB SD card into the Jobo
Giga One when it's offline, as under those circumstances, the Giga One
is quite happy to copy the contents of the SD card to its internal hard
drive, after which I can connect the Giga One to my PC and read the
images into the PC from the Giga One's internal hard drive.
However, I'd really like to find out how to get support for a 2GB SD
card on my installed card reader. My partner's PC will read the 2GB SD
card with no problems, so I know that it's possible.
If anyone here has come across this problem and knows the solution, I'd
be really grateful. If I can't find an answer here, I expect I'll try
one of the Windows newsgroups. I had a go at searching the MicroSoft
site, but must be using the wrong keywords, as I didn't get anything
useful. I'm also assuming that as two different SD slots on two
different card readers both fail to recognise the 2GB SD card that the
problem is likely to be generic rather than in a driver for either card
reader - unless both card readers are somehow sharing a driver!

Many (most?) card readers will choke on anything over 1G, unless they
are very recent. Rather than agonise over the problem, I would be
inclined to just go buy a new one that states it *will* read 2Gb (and
more..) in its specifications - it's not like they are hugely
expensive. Or go visit the website of whoever made the one/s you have,
and see if there is a software solution..

I have an older 6 in 1 Sandisk reader and it reads my 2Gig card pefectly. At
only a few dollars for a new reader there is hardly an excuse not to get a
new one.

yeah so does my old Sandisk reader, but I bought a new one because it
was only USB1.1, the new elCheapo USB2 card reader is way faster
