SD to Compact Flash Adapter

For those like me who have a handful of SD memory cards but whose new
toy only uses CF cards, I found an adaptor at Mittoni.com that does the
trick.  I tried the Type II adapter which is supposed to be good for SD
cards up to 1 GB, but my 2 GB SD card works fine.  Lets my D200 use CF
and SD`s,  albeit the SD transfer rate is significantly slower but fast
enough that it is not a problem unless you fire away lots of RAW shots
in a brief time frame.  Then it is REALLY slow.  Now I don`t know how
reliable this is but as a backup, this solution works for me.

Have you tried writing over 1GB of files?

I just got the dang thing yesterday evening, and have not taken 2 GB of
pictures onto the card.  I have transferred 2 GB of image files via
computer through the adapter and it works.

Tien-

I found a similar adapter at a local camera store.  It is the Minolta
SD-CF1.  Price was US$59.95.

With mine, the SD card slides into the side of the adapter.  It is
necessary to remove the adapter from the camera in order to access the SD
card.

The package says it will work with up to 512 MB, but I'm using it with a
1GB SD card.  No, I haven't tried to fill the card yet!

Unfortunately, mine also.

Possibly the maximum MB/GB limit was more a marketing limit that never
got updated. At the time when these adapters first came out, maybe
those were at the top end of memory cards?

My guess is, if they could say it would safely handle up to 2 GB, they would
have...
Max it out, let us know.

As I said, I was able to transfer 2GB (actually 1.89GB) without
problem.  That is as maxed out as I was able to get.

BTW, I love your "Chicago Holga Fun".  First thing I thought of was
"Citizen Kane".  Good stuff.  Just goes to show that it is not the
camera that is important!  Wish I had less equipment and more talent!

Cheers,

I read that follow up post of yours after I made my own--my apologies, and
thanks for the holga compliments.  Funny thing is, we run into people we
perceive as having more talent than our own all the time.  I know I do.
On another note, you mentioned you're a radiologist.  My dad was a
radiologist.  Not many of them.  Do you live in the states?

I live in Canada.  Many of my fellow graduates left and set-up shop in
the states.  Most are retired in Fiji. :))  My kids are still young so
I will still have to plug at it for a while, but the advantage is that
I can still coherse them into going to the botanical gardens for family
pictures and give me a chance to play with my new toys.

Sounds like you've got a good thing going.  My dad was slowed down by
multiple sclerosis, but he still did ok in the 15 years he was able to
practice.  His classmates from U of M medical school, however, are for the
most part millionaires.  That always kinda pissed him off!
