I have a Lowepro Off Trail-1 beltpack bag that meets my modest Nikon
D50 kit transport needs very well.

One thing that I have not been able to figure out though -- what is
the purpose of the elastic loops on the tabs that suspend the camera
in the holster pack ? They are on the bottom of the tabs (or
possibly on the top as the tabs could possibly fit either way but I
don't think so) that the camera body is suspended from.

Anybody with the same or similar bag that can provide a clue?

Never mind -- somebody provided me the info (and a closer look at
lowepro.com provides the answer as well). The loops are to hold film
canisters. Not much use for a DSLR though.

Use them for spare batteries.  I keep one spare in my camera
bag, plus the adaptor (which came with the D70 (though not the D70s, I
believe)) which is designed to hold three CR2s for when you can't get
back to a charger, but can buy some.  The CR2s are expensive, but they
have a very long shelf life, so it makes a good emergency pack for the
D70 (or D50).  I also use some of the loops in my camera bag to hold the
spare CF cards in their little plastic cases.

    Enjoy,
        DoN.
