Bought a new D-50 not too long ago. I like it, its great. The D-70 has a few
more features.

But....were I to make that decision over, I would get the D-70.

I bought the D-50 with the D-70 kit lens. (18-70mm)

Just as I would now get the D200, instead of the D70 which I
did get.  (Of course, that was not a choice when I got my D70 -- prior
to the 's' suffix being applied.  And that was prior to the existence of
the D50 as well. :-)

But without the D200 being available, I would certainly still
take the D70 over the D50.

At the time of my purchase, the choice was between the D100 and
the D70, and I still believe that I made the right choice there as well.

    Enjoy,

It depends how big your pocket book is and how much creative control you
want to have.  The d50 is fine for entry leve (casual)  photographers that
want a taste of what a slr can do
. I have heard they are going to phase the d70s out.

Where did you hear that?  Here?

I agree. The D70s has a fair bit more functional control, and the D200
has even more along with more resolution.

I also believe the D50 with the 18-70mm lense is one of the best
bargains available for a digital SLR.

They're going to phase out the D200, D2Xs, D70s, D50...all of them, it's
just a matter of time.

:-)

What they do to replace, upgrade, or update them, is another story.
