I read a little while back that the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
lens had some issues. Can't remember the exact details, but I think it
had something to do with sharpness, and Canon didn't know what caused
it.
I'm considering this lens, but I'm not prepared to fork out my hard
earned cash for a problem lens.

Have these issues been resolved yet? Any sites that update information
on this kind of thing?

Canon has officially acknowledged a problem, but has no fix as of yet:

or if that wraps for you and is unclickable:

Most newsreaders honor brackets <xyz.com> so long URLs don't get broken.
I reconnected your link above, and added the brackets, so it should be
clickable now.

Many folks won't click on tinyurls unless they are sure they know the
poster.

If you go directly to tinyurl.com, you'll find a Preview selection;
once activated, it will show the original URL and allow a go- no-go
choice.

too many tiny urls turned out to be gay men covered in sh.t.  Who was doing
that did anyone find out?  Same guy was also impersonating us at one time or
another.

I should think holding the camera vertically upsets the moving part unless
IS is active/inactive.  experiment.  It may also only be  a problem with
full frame cameras.
