Tony-
The on-off switch might be dirty, so I'd try switching it several times
with the battery removed. Similarly, the battery contacts might be dirty
or bent. Be careful trying to un-bend contacts in the camera. They are
probably somewhat brittle and could break off.
Does the camera come on with the card removed? A short circuit on the
card could prevent the camera from working.
The only reset I'm aware of, is to leave the battery out for several
hours. This resets everything including the counter. (To get back your
counter, you should have at least the last exposure on the card when you
get it working again.) This kind of reset doesn't affect firmware which
could have been corrupted.

There is a second battery onboard (at least, on the XT model). This is a
small circular wafer battery, tucked down the side of the main battery
compartment. It is this battery that maintains time, date, and (probably)
numbering sequence - all of the onboard camera data.
As an experiment, I just removed that battery and turned on my camera.
Unfortunately for me, I had to reset the time and date. Unfortunately for
the original poster, the camera turned on just fine without that secondary
battery, so that's not his problem.

In addition to other advice, I'd suggest removing both batteries and also
the lens - and leave overnight.

make sure the CF slot lid is firmly closed. EOS cameras automatically turn
off when this is open. Which also may indicate a faulty switch on this lid.

Hi,
Thanks all. She is in Bangkok now. She will go to Canon service center
there to see what's wrong. Or will pick up another camera to carry on.
