Two D200s at $3400 or one 5D at $2500 before rebate ($300).

Why wait for either of the above? A number of stores have the D200 in stock
at any given time (only takes a few minutes to find them on the Internet).
Heck, when I bought my D200 a few months ago, I just walked into my local
camera store, played around with it a little, and bought it...no lists, no
wait, I didn't even phone ahead. I didn't know there was ever a shortage on
the 5D (but then I don't follow Canon news very closely except to know that
I wish Nikon would come out with a camera just like it and at the same price
point).

It was not that easy in Germany, we had to wait for some weeks. But we,
too, decided to go for the D200 instead of the D2x, that was planned
before, due to the huge price difference.

I know my experience was atypical. ;-) There ARE benefits to living in a
small town. After the initial order (Dec.) came in, my local store was
getting 'em faster than they could sell them. Occasionally, I see people
complaining that they can't find a D200...always seems like a check of about
10 online reputable camera stores will turn up some in stock at any given
moment.
