Anyone with a plastic bodied camera is advised to carry a role or a
tube.

Yes, this is why I carry a TIG welder with me on every shoot so that when I
drop my magnesium bodied camera I can make instant field repairs.

Maybe we can get somebody to repair the cracks in his skull.

Or maybe even a *roll*. Either get a camera and learn something or shut
up.

What galls you shills for second-rate camera bodies is that the advice
did not
come from me and that your God, Canon is has gotten away from plastic
use for
bodies in any of their really good cameras.

You've never seen what happens to cast magnesium that has been subjected to
an impact, have you?  And once magnesium gets lit, it burns exceedingly hot
and is very difficult to put out.  I'd rather have a polymer case than
magnesium any day, thank you.

How would you know? You don't own anybody's camera.

What role would that be?  Macbeth?  Hamlet?  The Lord High Executioner?

Sure.  In the three years I've owned plastic cameras none of them have
cracked.  Do you own a camera?

Of course not.
You've owned many many cameras haven't you.
All cardboard, those disposable thingies from Woolworths weren't they?

-----------

One of the really good things about cardboard cameras is their
resistance to damage when you drop them. This is probably why they're
called "throw aways".

A few years back an Australian Photographic magazine handed out 20 of
these throw aways to Professional Photographers all over the country and
held a competition based of the best 5 shots from each camera. They took
the best three photos and entered them in a "real" photo competition and
guess what? Second prize for one of them.

It just goes to show... It's the Photographer not the camera which makes
good photos.

Hello... Helen or is it George or Orville? Which of the trolls are you
socking for today?

Are you new around here?  Obviously you are unfamiliar with our friend Rich.

If you have the competence to do so please feel free to compare my headers,
from which you might just manage to tell I'm in the UK, which George
(presumably you mean Preddy) isn't, nor is Orville.
If you can't understand headers maybe Daddy or one of the teachers can help
you find the right things to click.
But I see you're in Australia, which explains a lot, and I wouldn't expect
you to be able to understand much. Never mind.

That's the infamous Douglas from Down Under.  Not new, and unfortunately,
doesn't seem to go away.

Only a Brit would insult and Australian.

Actually lots of people insult us, luckily we have thick skins and can give
as good as we get. ;-)

Actually it is a hereditary feature based on the gene pool of the
criminally insane forefathers. ;)

LOL, I think you need to check your history a bit, there was some naughty
Poms amongst them but not to many were particularly criminal. :-)

What? And ruin the Aussie reputation? :)

Heh, they took some Pom hookers who were a wee bit long in the tooth and
sent them there for their "retirement" years. Helped keep some of the
others from feeling too lonely, plus saved the sheep from being ravished.
;) Seems the sheep liked it too much so their population was diminishing
and the Pom's needed their woolies.

Actually the Dutch were particularly insane as shown by the Batavia
shipwreck a few years back, not sure how many stayed though.

So by your reckoning, you being from the UK would be a poof, bad luck.....
Never mind....

At least here in the UK we can tell the difference between boys' names and
girls' name. (We can also write decent grammar, but never mind, I understood
what you meant.)
I've never heard of a girl being called a poof.  But by Australian standards
I'm unusual in that I like men.

It is?  My God!  They told me it was not only magnesium,
but weather proof!  Just like a 1D or Nikon D200!
It got rained on.  Should I be worried??

I've owned plastic cameras for years. If you don't drop them, they don't
break.

That's sort of funny, but it's also completely unsubstantiated as it relates
to non-metal DSLR bodies--which have a remarkably good durability track
record.  Heck--When my D30 fell more than 90 feet, the ONLY break in the
body housing was the small portion on the side of the battery enclosure
piece, which is very thin.  The rest of the body housing remained quit
intact--despite having the lens and vertical grip literally ripped from the
mount during the violent impact:
