Hi,
I was thinking about buying an Epson P-2000 Multimedia Storage Viewer. I
have a week-long trip coming up and I expect to take about 200-300 images a
day (some raw). I don't want to take my laptop along to download my flash
cards (I have two 1 GB cards). My Canon 20D will give me about 98 RAW images
per card.
I like the idea that I can store almost 40GB of image files in the Epson and
I can pre-view the images as well. And, it does support Canon's RAW format.
I found it for $400.00 after rebate.
Thanks for any feedback about the Epson P-2000.

The P-2000 has no equal, save for its own competition in the P-4000 (larger
hard drive).
It's a fantastic device. Image rendition is truly spectacular because
they've packed a full VGA (640x480) into such a small space. One note on
RAW, though, which is you can't zoom in on them. If you shoot RAW+jpeg,
however, you can see both, and zoom in on the jpeg to check focus, etc.
Highly recommended.

Dave, I have one and I find it very useful and dependable with decent
graphics. It's very rugged and I keep it in my backpack. And transfer to
the PC is really fast. I have more confidence in using this to store files
while I'm on the road since I can see them as compared to some of the simple
storage devices were it is hit or miss. I shoot exclusively RAW and the
P-2000 doesn't zoom with RAW files, which is no big deal for me. It's
definitely a must have item.
Also, you should be able to find it cheaper than $400 since it is
discontinued and replaced with the P-4000. I heard rumor of a P-4500 ready
to be released. If you find that the 40GB of the P-2000 isn't enough you
can swap out the drive for an 80GB. Instructions for this can be found by
using Google.
Bottom line, it's a fantastic device at any price. Just shop around since
you can do much better than $400. Enjoy
Rita

I got one a few weeks ago - the P4000, actually, for use in Havana with my
D200 - worked like a charm, and offloaded to my Mac without a hitch.
Cheers

Hi,
I have used P-2000 about year now and I'm pretty satisfied to it.
I used it on my trip to Thailand last year and it worked liek a dream =)
Only problem is that it's little bit slow and eat batteries but I have made
my own travel charger (uses 4 normal batteries to charge Epson's battery)
so that is not so big thing...
You can put bigger harddrive to Epson P-2000 if that 40GB is not enought.
I shoot much and two 1Gig CF and Epson has been enough for me... One CF in
the camera and one in the Epson if I'm shootin :-)

Petri,
I have often thought it would be great to be able to recharge on the road
using a charger powered by normal batteries. Nothing is worse than having to
pack different wall socket plugs for charging in different countries. Do you
have a circuit for your charger?
many thanks

I'd like to have one but for the money they want it is slow and screen too
small.
Oh, and it will not read the raw files from my old 1D 4.2MP. :-(
