Meanwhile... the Canon 30D is only available in store. ?  And not available

"Usually Ships In: 2 - 4 Weeks", not exactly "in stock".

It is because people have purchased their stock since he posted the link.  I
went to it earlier and it said "In Stock" and that it would ship in 1 to 2
days.

Yep. It was 1-2 Business days when I posted it.

And thank gosh because I've got their credit card and I'm looking for an
excuse to try that baby (never mind that I've already got three bags full of
Canon gear)

Thanks for the warning!  Who'd spend $1700 at one of the WORST retailers
around?

And their store is a lot worse!

$1699 is the going rate, so I would buy it locally if you can find it, as it
is a good idea to support your local shop if they are being competitive
(sometimes my local shop charges 30% more ... then they don't get my
business).

I agree.  And when my local shop is high, I give them a chance to give me a
better price, and so far, they always have...either matching B&H prices or
coming within 10% of it (once, they even beat it by $100!).

I love to support the local shops but I had to quit one which quoted me the
best price of three local shops for a EF 100-400 IS and then begged me to
buy a $60 filter because "I lost money on this deal". I never bought
anything big from them again.
