Hi All
I would much appreciate advice on a flash for the Nikon D70.  I have a Sigma
EF430ST and a Cobra Auto 250 with auto external thyristor trigger sensor.
Can either - both be used with the Nikon and if so how best?  As part of the
setup I would like to be able to photograph some motorsport at night and so
a powerful flash would be very useful!
I neither are suitable then (on a limited budget) which flash would be best
/ most versatile, please?
Many thanks for your valued opinions

According to page 186 of the manual, the Nikon D70 can tolerate any flash up to
250 volts running through the hotshoe, and according to:

       http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

the Sigma puts out 4-12 volts, and the Cobra puts out 66 volts.  Note there is
a caution about negative tip voltages in the manual, but I'm not sure how many
flashes are that way (I suspect it is pretty rare).

This means either flash could be used.  Note, using a slave is probably not a
good idea unless you are the only photographer there, since the slave will see
the other flashes and get discharged.

Here is a flash tutorial I just ran across:

Very many thanks for your reply.  It has been very helpful - certainly I had
not realised about the voltage issues to do with digital cameras and
flashes.  The URL for the info on flash was very good too.
Thanks again

Have recently bought a Nikon D70, but am also wondering about trigger
voltages.
I have a Cobra MD250 flash, and need to know the trigger voltage before
connecting it up! Could be the same as the standard 250, but dont want to
take the risk!
Hoping someone out there may know?
