Canon yanks EOS 20Da astronomy camera

Canon has announced that the company will discontinue its EOS 20Da
digital SLR later this month. The camera -- a version of the EOS 20D
optimized for astrophotography with a custom low-pass filter and live
LCD focusing via a mirror lock-up -- was always a unique product
targeting a specialized niche. Canon insists that it's killing the cam
because its base body, the 20D, is being replaced by the new 30D. That
could mean that Canon plans a new model based on the 30D, or it could
just be an effort to find a graceful way to kill off a product that
was a little too specialized to find a decent market -- especially at
a price of about $2,500 with lenses, more than double the going rate
for the 20D.

What, you were thinking of buying one and now you have a reason not to?
Or is this just more of the usual marketing soap opera that seems to
endlessly fascinate ignorant wannabe fruitcake nitwits like you in this
forum?  (Will Pentax call it quits?  Will Canon be caught in flagrante
delicto with Nikon, raising the outrage of the anti-trust goon squad?
Can Leica finally create a camera worth owning?  TUNE IN TORMORROW!!!)

Perhaps he, similar to me, chooses to warn others of the nature of your
posts designed to create long and vacuous threads.

Thank GOODNESS for you internet samaritans!

Thanks Rich. That explains why some months ago I was getting nowhere
with Canon trying to get a review unit out of them for this camera.
They would have known back then even though only now making the
announcement.

Cheers,

Wayne

A far better explanation is that Canon looked at your website and said
"Who is this guy?" and shipped any review units to more visible
entities.

Hurrah for the internet! - how on earth did non-achievers like you manage to
sneer at people who are trying hard, before it came along?

Ahhhhh, poor Pentax Fan is upset because I offended his ego.  Oh wait,
not his ego, but someone elses ego?  Maybe you should google up
"hopelessly idiotic sycophantic bimbo".  Is that you picture that pops
up?  In any case, I find it ironic you babble about "non-achiever"
here...

So, tell me. is that the best you can do - or has a frenzied bout of
masturbation left you temporarily lethargic?

I'm going to be charitable and assume it's the latter reason, and give you
another opportunity to come back with something less juvenile.

Don't let me down!, d'you hear?!

He's getting better - a month ago "fuckhead" was the best he could come up
with.

Didn't matter anyway.  The camera was a ripoff and not very effective.
Astro-photogs are FAR better of sending a Rebel/XT to Hutech for
modification.

The explanation is straightforward.  When camera manufacturers
announce that a product is discontinued, its manufacture often ended
months or even years before.

A good example is the Nikon F3.  The F3 was on Nikon's list for just
over 20 years.  However, it had not been manufactured for about two
years when its discontinuation was announced in 2000.

With the 20Da, which has a very limited market, I suggest that Canon
probably made one small batch of this camera, and that Canon no longer
has stocks.
