Canon EOS350D and Sigma 105 macro

Hello.

I've seen several postings about the choice of Canon or Sigma macro.

I sent a reply saying that the Canon was faster to focus and easier to use.

I've now found another difference. I have the Sigma 105mm macro and it works
with my EOS620 (35mm) and IX and IX7 (APS) bodies.
It will not work properly with my EOS350D. In several modes the camera does
not want to do anything other than show "ERR 99". In a few modes (this is
not consistent) the camera will le me take one shot before the "ERR 99" pops
up. In these cases the shot has actually been taken.

Anyone else found this problem with the EOS350D?

I know I might be able to have the lens re-chipped but I'm debating whether
to save the money and get the EF-S 60mm macro which sounds like a nice lens.

Regards,  Ian.

I can't speak for the Sigma, but I have the EF-S 60 mm macro for my Rebel XT
and am extremely pleased with it.  Tack sharp and good contrast.  At 60 mm
it is equivalent to about 85 mm full-frame.  Not good for butterflies, but
great for about anything else.    JackM

That lens is a shaky choice for Canon DSLRs.  I have a 300D and a 20D and
both bodies often "bitch" about that lens.  However, I have found that
turning the camera off and back on will often fix the temporary glitch and
allow me to continue with my shots.

I like the Sigma lens and like Canon but I am looking for fewer future
hassles.

I will no longer consider non-Canon lenses.  Life is too short to be second
guessing and troubleshooting.  Sorry about that, Sigma and Tamron and ...
this is where the Canon bashers step in and cite there contrary views.
Don't care ... I'm going with Canon lenses from now on.  I will stick with
one vendor and eliminate the finger pointing.
