Is there a FAQ for this group?

Since I'm not yet familiar with the genre terminology, what search
terms might I use in a Google search to determine the length of delay
between pressing the shutter button on an AF camera and the time the
picture/flash actually fire.
I believe this time is used by the camera for auto-focusing or flash
charging.  The "hold it half way down" then shoot doesn't work for me
due to poor muscular control.

It's called shutter lag. No need to search look at the reviews at
http://www.dpreview.com where it is quantified as part of the testing
process.
