Using a SanDisk 1G card.  The exposures remaining portion of the Control
Panel doesn't give a number; instead its says1.1 with a small 'k' above
it.

I reformatted the card but it still says 1.1K.  Can I presume I have
some 1,100 shots left and it will go to 999 when I put 200 shots on the
card?

Thanks

That's about it!
Over 1000 shots remaining will show 1k, 1.1k etc.
Once you're below 1000 it'll show the 3 digit number, 999, 998 etc.

;-)

Set in basic jpeg, small size I show 7.7k with 2GB <g>. I've used that
setting for making time lapse movies. In practice, the estimates are
conservative, you ought to get a good bit more than the estimate.

Thanx guys.

The firmware does a pretty good job of estimating the count for RAW
images.  There was a bug in < 2.0 firmware that grossly underestimated
the remaining image count, but it was fixed in the 2.0 firmware.

Shoot RAW and you won't have that problem at all.
