I'm currently considering buying a Canon EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT in
the States) and am puzzled re lenses.
Firstly, will the following EF lenses be compatible with the 350D -
EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 III
EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III
Also, re the 1.6 cropping issue when using an EF lens on a digital SLR
- am I correct in saying that when using the EF lens with the 350D I
still see what the lens sees, ie whatever I *see* through the
camera/lens and photograph will be exactly the same as what is
recorded on the digital media? Logic tells me this is the case seeing
as it's SLR, but I want to be certain. :-)
Thanks

yes, but I suggest you take a look to EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS

EF lenses work fine but the 1.6 factor will work against you a bit for wide
angle work and help a bit for telephoto. It's an SLR and what you see its
what you will get.

Thanks just wanted to be certain that I wasn't missing anything (eg I
hadn't realised about the 1.6 factor until today as it's not
highlighted in any of the Canon literature or many of the (short)
reviews that I've read).

The 350D is a nice camera and you can hang all those luscious Canon lenses
on it. Before you buy, have you checked out the new 30D?

Agreed, although past about 150mm you start hanging the camera off the lens!
30D is a far more robust camera - and it's shutter is rated at TWICE that of
the 350D - definately get it if you can stretch the budget.
How do I know this? Well, I used to have the 350 - but I sold it to buy the
20D, and have never regretted it for a moment!

Somewhat out of my price range I'm sorry to say - I read that it's
about £1000 ?

Once the 30D starts shipping, you will probably be able to pick up a 20D for
a decent price. To me the 20D has a much more solid feel to it than the
350D.

All EF lenses will fit the 350D. So will all EF-S lenses, though
*they* cannot be used on 35mm film or full frame digital Canon
cameras.

Yes. What you see is what you get, except for the minor point
that what you see in the viewfinder looking out through the lens
is only about 95% of the image. This was also the case with many
film cameras.

I suggest that you forget about those turds and buy a good prime or two.
