I saw a guy using one at a sporting event yesterday. Pre-release model I
assume.

You sure it wasn't a D30? Besides Canon doesn't consider it a pro-camera.

Makes me wish I'd waited to sell my D30, but then I'd feel bad taking
advantage of the unwary...for a little while.  OTOH, if they pay a bunch for
what was specified as a 3mp camera, that's their problem, isn't it?

Are you sure it wasn't the older Canon 300D? ...Also, there was a
previous model that came out around 2000 called the D30 (Notice the D
came before the number) by Canon.  The Canon 30D is due out in April,
but I am sure there are a few out for press previews at this time...

There are a few pre-production units out there.

Quite a stack on one stand today at the 'Focus on Imaging' exhibition, NEC
Birmingham- Don't know the price, it wasn't marked and the stand was
extremely busy.

I have seen them pre-selling at Ritz Camera Online for $1499 (body
Only) and 1599 for Kit with lens...I'm a bit miffed as I just bought a
20D a couple weeks ago...Oh well...I still like my 20D... :/

...and Skip...you aren't quite "right"...are ya'? :))

There are reports of it being available in Australia.  In the US, it isn't
expected to be out until at least mid-March.
