I have a Canon EOS Rebel 35mm camera, which came with a 35-88mm lense. i
also bought a 80-200mm EF lense. If I buy a canon digital slr, will these
lenses work? Possibly a silly question, but if you don't ask...
Yes, but with a twist.
The sensor size of most of the dSLRs is smaller than the 35mm file.
Don't ask why or if that is better because that will start the thread
from hell and you willl learn more about protons than you care to know.
Because of the size difference, you get a "lens multipler". It is
listed in the specs when you look at the dSLR. Typically, it is around
1.4. So your 80-200mm just upgraded itself to about a 112-280mm.
Otherwise, all of the metering and everything work fine.

In the case of the 350D it is 1.6, thus the angle of view using your
lenses is quite a bit less (useful of you want telephoto, not very good
if you want wide angle), bellow are the 135 film equivalents for your
lenses:
35-88mm = 56-141mm
80-200mm = 128-320mm
N.B. it is more accurate to call it a crop factor since that is what it
is; all other effects of the lens are not transformed by 1.6.

It is not a "lens multiplier". It is just a crop of the image. The
focal length of the lens doesn't change. It just a smaller field of
view.

Yes, and you can even stick a piece of foil with a small hole in it over the
lens mount opening. :)
