For anyone interested, here are some Olympus supplied images from the
E-330's new, unknown-quantity, 7.1Mp sensor.

Sadly I've only got a crappy LCD monitor at the moment and of course
they are only jpgs, but at first glance they look pretty noise free,
with well-controlled highlights on most, and in general, a quite
'DSLR-like' quality about them, if you know what I mean (sorry about
the veiled insult, Oly!) (O: They sharpen up pretty well which is a
good sign.. It's hard to judge, but these images seem to indicate it
may have fairly low contrast and good dynamic range, which would be
nice if it proves true..
But.. strangely, they are almost all shot in aperture priority mode
(don't they like the Oly's metering?), a couple of them seem to have a
bit of motion blur/focus errors/lens softness, and they were all shot
at 100 ISO. Dang.
Oh well. Could be worse, I suppose. I'm still waiting to se what they
manage with the E3...

Here's a few more:

including a few high-iso ones. (big page...could take some time to load.)

Thanks Lourens.
The ISO comparison is interesting. Just looks like more noise
reduction at the expense of loss of detail. I'll wait for the dpreview
and imaging-resource comparisons, but those images do not give me much
hope on the low-noise front..

If you look at the grain images, it looks almost like the 300, 330 and
500 all had the same sensor, with just different levels of noise
supression used. If you run the picture (all six crops will be saved
when you save the image) though a noise reduction program
like Neat Image, it obliterates what detail is left, leaving the E-300
image as the sharpest, retaining the most legible characters
but with more noise.
