Using Minolta AF lenses with Nikon D50?

Hi,

I am an old-time user of Minolta, having owned Maxxum 7000,8000i and
9xi. Now I want to move to a Digital SLR. I was thinking of Maxxum 5D,
so that I may be able to use my AF lenses and flash which I already
have. BUT.. as Minolta has sold off its camera business, I'm not so
sure if I should stick with it. Nikon D50 also looks good, but won't
let me use my maxxum AF lenses and flash. Are there any such
adapters/convertors which will let me do that? i.e. let me use my
maxxum AF lenses and flash with the new Nikon D50/D70?

Thanks,

Farhan.

No, I don't believe that would be possible while retaining infinity focus.
And, if you were to use such an adapter, you would not get autofocus and
probably not automatic exposure, either.

Word on the street is that Sony is supposed to be making SLRs with the
Minolta lens mount; if you have a lot of good lenses it might be worth
looking at.  If not, just start over with Nikon.

Either sell your lenses and get the Nikon or just wait for the next
installment of rebadged KM DSLRs and Sony will be making them although they
will be designed by the same people that designed the KM 7D and 5D.  The
current 7D is still a good camera and will be a bit cheaper now if you want
a 6MP DSLR. I have one myself.
