Why the crop factor of 1.3?  People have been using pre-existing Leica
lenses on their
FF DSLRs, and considering what a digital M is likely to cost, I thought
they'd go full
frame?

I have been holding out for a Digital M. There will be new sensors when
it comes out, probably next fall or early 2007. A 1.3 crop factor is a
compromise, the digital backs for the R8, R9 is a bit of a nitch
market. With a full frame sensor we are probably looking at 6K or 7K
for the body. Hopefully with a 1.3 sensor we can go sub 5K. I can only
hope.

A FF sensor with non-retrofocus wideangles is a BAD combination, so
really that's just impossible with Leica's optical reputation... a
smaller sensor (the M-mount is small-ish) with new wideangles is just
very logical.

Same sensor as on the R8/R9 backs so considering Leica's poor financial
situation, the best compromise approach.

There may also be issues with respect to the back of the RF lenses being
so close to the sensor plane (compared to SLR's) that a FF would render
very badly at the edges/corners.  At that, I wouldn't doubt there will
be issues with the M7D edges and corners ... some of it corrected in the
in camera or post-processing s/w, perhaps.

Dear Konica-Minolta, please beg, borrow or steal the R8/R9 back
technology from Leica and apply to the Maxxum 9.  Please.  Pretty
please.  With sugar on top.

Cheers,
Alan.

Given the way Konica-Minolta's photographic division is going that's
the only way they'll get. The sure can't afford to buy it.

A bit dated.

And current forecast.

This isn't the forecast of a healthy company.
