Hi, I recently picked up the Gitzo Explorer aluminum G2220 and hands
down believe it is a great tripod, however my focus is macro. If I ever
upgrade from the Nikkor 105mm to the 200mm will these legs still work?
If I should just go bigger now what should I get? Please keep in mind
that I generally have this rig pointed at the ground and using the
Explorer's column tilted and rotated greater than 90%.
I don't have any clue as to what sort of tripod macro photographers
use, any clue you can offer is way better than the one I have now.
Thanks,
Avery

Excuse top posting, try the Manfrotto 190PRO, you can mount the center
column horizontal, great for macro

I saw a guy working with a rig that looked like an enlarger (mount is for
the camera) surrounded by a translucent light tent. I think it's just
called a copy stand.

Yes my enlarger can be used as a copy stand by removing the dichronic
head and using a tripod socket adapter.

The Explorer is very good for outdoor situations where you want to get
the camera right down to ground level, or set up on uneven ground. If
you mostly point the lens vertically at the ground it may be worth
finding or devising some sort of copy stand which you can use outdoors.
I've not tried a 200mm macro, it may need a counterweight of some sort
if you use it with the Explorer.
