It's December 13 an I'm wondering if anyone has taken delivery yet?

Just read that delivery to Canada has been delayed, likely the same
elsewhere.

First shipment of Nikon D200 to dealers in Canada delayed
Monday, December 12, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

Nikon Canada has delayed slightly the departure date for the first shipment
of the D200 to dealers in Canada. That was originally planned for December
15, 2005, to coincide with the worldwide ship date of the camera. The
release of Nikon's newest digital SLR, says Mary Mulder, National Sales
Manager for Nikon Canada, has been pushed back about a week, such that
dealers can expect to see stock sometime towards the end of the week of
December 19, 2005 at the earliest.
Though we don't know the reason for the delay, it's likely because Nikon
Canada has determined that they need to build a larger quantity of initial
inventory of the D200 before they begin to supply their network of
retailers. We also don't know if any other Nikon sales regions around the
globe have similarly pushed back the release of the camera.

Thanks for the information - I was getting all pumped about getting mine day
after tomorrow! Apparently I understand it's not uncommon for Nikon to not
meet their scheduled dates.

I just called my dealer. Supposedly Nikon ships on the 14th [or already
has shipped depending which person in the store I talk to!] so I might
expect mine soon, BUT, I live in California. Have no idea what the deal
is for Canada. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it as I don't
take too much stock in what info the poor dealers are given by Nikon.
I'll be lucky to get it by Christmas!

The demand is high. My dealer expects 40 in the first shipment but
most, if not all by now, are spoken for. The Nikon rep is giving a demo
of a D200 this week, so actually I won't be totally surprised if they
arrive this week as it will prompt impulse buyers to get one. I know
that the NYC dealers I usually buy from are "sold out" and heavens
knows when more will arrive. If I were so inclined, I might be able to
make a good profit by selling mine immediately but that isn't going to
happen :-) I made sure I was at the top of the list by paying in full
before the camera arrived.

California?  What part?  north?  south?

Well-known dealer, e.g. Samy's in LA, or just a local guy that no one
has ever heard of outside of your immediate area?

Don't know about Samy's, but supposedly a Nikon rep armed with a D200
will be at Paul's this weekend, if you're anywhere near the South Bay.

South Bay in the LA area, or South Bay in the San Francisco area?

More important: when is the "stripped down" D70ized  version of the D200
coming out? I presume the main difference will be more plastic and less
metal in the body.
I am astounded Nikon screwed the pooch with regard to the holiday marketing
season in the US and the EU on this one. Canon always seems to time it
right, but Nikon never gets their new product out there until the spring.
And if they delay the step down version of the D200 until next fall they
risk losing market share big time to Canon.

What defines a "stripped down" D200?  the successor to the D70s?
